Brian has always been a competitive sportsman, from hurling, football, rugby and running to Ironman triathlons, mountain climbing etc. When the challenges of triathlon failed to excite Brian moved onto climbing in areas such as the Alps, Andes, Himalayas and in Africa and South East Asia and then onto racing.

Wexford Born, Brian joined An Garda Siochana in the 1980s and spent 10 years working in Dundalk. He was seconded to the UN to train police and monitor elections in Cambodia and later returned to Dublin to spend the rest of his service.

Brian took part in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc series of extreme races in Chamonix and has raced all 3 of the biggest races, up to 170k nonstop. He has raced the Marathon Des Sable, a multi-stage 240K race, through the heart of the Sahara, reaching temperatures of 47deg. Having experienced the soring heat, Brian was drawn to the idea of extreme cold and went on to race the Yukon Arctic Ultra in Winter in the wilderness of the Yukon in temperatures as low as -53degs. Not satisfied with this, Brian completed a 500k single stage race, coming 3rd and being the only individual to finish, whilst all other competitors were in teams. Brian has raced the jungle ultra a 240k self-sufficient ultimate stage race through the Amazonian primary rain forests, finishing in a top 10 position.

Lately, Brian has entered a multi-stage, self-sufficient ski touring race in Northern Greenland in Winter, a stunning experience in big blizzards coming 2nd overall. Always striving for more, Brian pushed his limits at high-altitude, racing the Everest Trail at 4000m+ heights, over 180k against pro-runners including the world trail champion, Luis Alberto Hernando and finished in the top 20!

He has come face to face with bears, wolves and even a polar bear, and lived to tell the tale!

Why?? This is a word often said about Brian… The answer is, a passion for living life, personal challenges, and experiencing the beauty of the most extreme environments on the planet.

We were absolutely delighted with Brian, he went down a treat with our group. His stories and indeed his whole life are absolutely amazing, and he speaks about himself very naturally and honestly. There was huge interest from our group, with plenty of questions and Brian was kind enough to stay around to speak with some of us after the event. The kit/equipment and photos he brought along added to the atmosphere he created and I can just imagine him in some of the extraordinary circumstances he outlined.

I would absolutely recommend Brian to other companies/for other events, and if other departments here are looking for a speaker for an event I will pass on your contact details.
