Born in Ireland on April 11th 1971 growing up in Co. Donegal as a young boy, Jason Black’s love for the great outdoors was heavily influenced through cubs and scouts. Mother Nature providing the mountains, waterways & unspoiled coast line, Ireland was to be his perfect adventure playground. Jason’s light hearted fun filled nature makes expedition life an adventure to enjoy. But his unfaltering determination as a very keen athlete from a very early age, has always played centre stage in his daily life allowing no obstacle stand between him and success in life.

Not the best at school struggling at the hands of a violent bully, sport has always been his salvation, giving him self- belief, discipline and a competitive attitude to be the best he could ever be. Over twenty years was spent in the Judo association of Ireland competing for Ireland on international duties. Alongside this a further twenty years was clocked up as a member of cycling Ireland, racing competitively in regional and Irish national road races including three FBD International Milk Ras. Jason Black has taken part in many of the endurance cycling events over the years to include:

Race across Italy (800km) April 2016

Donegal Wild Atlantic Way Ultra Race (555km) June 2016

Race around Ireland (2,150km) August 2016

Race across Italy (800km) April 2017 – Qualified for Race across America – 5,000km

Race across Oman (1,000km - Unsupported) February 2018

Race across Oman (1,000km – Unsupported) February 2019

Race around Corsica (700km – Unsupported) April 2019

Years followed in sport and Mountaineering once again came to the fore in his passion for adventure. Honing his skills around the world climbing with exceptional athletes prepared him to tackle the might of the +8000mtr giants and the greatest mountains in the world. In preparation for these Jason trained and climbed some of the best mountains in the world to include:

Mt Everest Basecamp (Nepal) 2012

Mt Kala Pathar (Nepal) 2012

Mt Island peak (Nepal) 2012

Mt Everest Summit (Nepal) 2013

Jason’s belief “success in life”, is shared with the youth of the Irish communities as he travels the globe encouraging young women & men “Not to be afraid of setting new goals, finding a way to overcome the obstacles, visualising the prize and delivering your dreams and ambitions”. He echoes, having a dream in life and finding a way to achieving it (at times against all the odds) is the greatest summit success you will ever achieve. Don’t let dream stealers pull you down or stand in the way of living your life your way & to its complete fullness….Believe in yourself & find a way.

Jason Black, like others has had his fair share of lows & losses in his life. But his resilience to continue and stand up each time he’s been knocked down truly shows his real strength. His self-belief and commitment as a person has seen him making Irish history, being the first and only Donegal person to stand on the summit of Mt Everest the highest place on the planet at 29,029ft on 19th may 2013, climbing the challenging North-face route via Tibet.

On 22nd of July 2018 at 6am Jason Black went one better and topped off his Endurance career by being the first republic of Ireland person to successfully summit and survive K2 the second highest mountain and revered as the toughest mountain in the world. Jason Black has joined the very small yet illustrious group of 345 global mountaineers in history to ever summit K2.

With other peoples’ wellbeing and welfare at the fore, Jason has spent a great deal of his time over the past few years in particular talking to the Youth of today and inspiring them to believe in themselves. This passion has seen him talk to over 100 primary & secondary schools in his native Donegal and further afield. Promoting positive mental health and self-worth are so fundamentally important to Jason and in November 2018 he donated the proceeds from a show he produced in An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny to Jigsaw Donegal where he spoke of his experience on K2 in 2018 and was so aptly called “K2 – The Stone in my Shoe”.

Jason Black is a fascinating and engaging keynote speaker. He has delivered motivational workshops and talks to some of the biggest Irish companies over the past few years liaising with all levels of the workforce from Senior management to the staff on the ground.

Jason Black receives national & international radio, Tv and online media as a Donegal ambassador on a global sporting stage. Recently Jason shared his human story to the nation on the Ray D’Arcy show on Saturday 10th November 2018, he felt empowered to talk about his past, how he held things together during difficult periods in his life and ultimately how he used a troubled past to climb and survive Mt Everest and K2.  He has been inundated since with well wishes from people from all walks of life who have taken solace from his story.

On 21st November 2018 Jason was blown away by the wonderful response in Dublin City of his Irish K2 “the stone in my shoe” presentation which sold out at one of his sponsor’s store “the great outdoors”

Jason Black was selected as an Ambassador for the Irish Red Cross in 2018.  He was a very proud Irish man to stand on the summit of K2 holding aloft the Irish Red Cross flag in July 2018 giving the organisation huge global exposure.

On 18th January 2019 Jason was announced as the “Donegal Person of the year” for 2018 and a largely attended gala ball was held in Dublin on March 2nd 2019 to honour him and present his award.
